Mini-Symposium Outline: Emotional and spiritual difficulties have arisen out of the intersection of transgender and Catholic identities. What is the process for resolving these difficulties and enhancing spiritual and emotional/psychological health as Catholics?  Catholics seeking social and medical transition experience increasing spiritual and psychological harm as Pope Francis' comments about "transgenderism" and "gender theory" unfortunately reiterate a naïve theological orthodoxy of strict sexual dimorphism as the theo-anthropological model of “natural order.”  What is clear is that, rather than nuanced discussion, hostility and mis-information are dominating Catholic opinion-making. A "theology of the marginal body" offers alternatives to reductionism by considering trans-inclusive options for liturgy, worship, and prayer that remedy spiritual abuse while preserving cherished, positive values of one's faith. These alternatives form the foundation for affirming, clinical pastoral psychotherapy approaches. A therapeutic exercise for use in psychotherapy will be shared.
